I like the idea, Dave, but trying to figure out why it doesn't work for me. The BG doesn't help with obvious grout lines, highlights and shadows, but as much as anything I think it's down to the the lighting now doing anything to bring out the form of the utensils or control the busyness of the image, and the reflections on make it worse.
Hope that's useful and not merely discouraging.
