Currently in the city and experienced the 2nd highest tide in recorded memory 187cm. City devastated but the citizens are getting the city back to normal - even when the tide currently sits at 150cm. The square outside our hotel is flooded.
Wellington boots would have been useless.
The plastic shoes that are sold for €8-€10 are as good as useless. They leak quickly and get inundated if the tide is too high...
Next time we go in high tide season we plan to get waders that go up to the top of the thigh. It’s what Venetians wear.. might take space in the luggage but may prevent you coming back home with smelly damp clothes in the suitcase.
