After much deliberation, I decided it was time to put a few road miles under the wheels and head to deepest, darkest Wales for what are considered some of the most scenic stages in the UK. The first thing to strike me was the elevation. These were some serious climbs, more akin to a rally stage in the French Alps, rather than a British forest. The stages were very wide too, a world apart from the claustrophobic forests of Kielder. This gave the drivers a lot more room for error, so we saw the cars being driven very enthusiastically, with an array of different lines.
Walking up from the stage start, to the top of the climb was a fair trek, but we were rewarded with fantastic views, and it was a good opportunity to try out a few different compositions

1) The Wind Turbines were working overtime in brutal conditions

2) There were a LOT of Escorts, but also a good variety of other historics

3) But still, quite a lot of Escorts

4) The Pikes Peak stage offers some spectacular views, better than anything I've seen in the UK

5) There were quite of lot of miles walked to get to the viewpoints

6) There were brief, and I mean BRIEF, periods of sunlight.

I'll keep it at 6 shots, though I took a hell of a lot. Any C&C would be more than welcomed.

Hi Matty, superb photos of an amazing rally well worth your effort to climb Pikes Peak !, I would appreciate any images of car 38 Silver Mk2 Escort, do you sell any?
Leigh.

Hi Leigh, sure, I've got a few of you guys. If you let me know an email, I'll send over some proofs - thanks for your comment, the legs are still recovering from the walking!

Nice set! I love the variety of shots! Pikes Peak worth every effort to walk to the top! Been there once in WRC 2013, and really love to go back soon. The light snow gives a nice touch instead of the typical monotonic yellowish green

Cheers Yiannis, thanks for the comment, The snow was a nightmare, as it kicked in during the 90 break between stages. Totally freezing! Definitely worth it though, I'd like to make sure I make a trip back here this year.

Some great shots there, good to see a few different angles. I made the trip down from Lincolnshire, and have never been so cold on an event. It was a long day but well worth the effort. I decided to head home before the 2nd run of the moderns (just as the horizontal rain/sleet/snow started)

Nice perspective on these :)

Where do you find out about events like this? I'm really missing the race season, but if I knew where things like this were I wouldn't have to go cold turkey over winter! :D

Cheers Kenton, it was proper freezing! I tried to work a few different angles, plus, moving about helped me to prevent frostbite! Glad to hear that there are other nutters out there travelling silly distances to rallies too!!

Cheers Mark, www.itsmymotorsport.com and www.rallies.info are a pretty good start. There is the Malcolm Wilson in Cumbria, the Tour of Epynt in Wales and the MSA Rallycross at Blyton this weekend for starters!!

Hi Matty, best e-mail is info@armstrongbodyshop.com really appreciate this.

Cheers Leigh, Ill send them over when i get back from work! ta

Yes Matty, I think I can be classed as a nutter. Lol.

My plans for this weekend had been for the Malcolm Wilson on Saturday, and the Tour Of Epynt on Sunday, but after having a car accident yesterday, resulting in my car being a write off, I will be attending the Rallycross at Blyton instead, as it's only 5 miles from my doorstep.

What a nightmare - My dad is off to Blyton, which I'd kinda like to go to, but I'll wait til it hits Croft, which is on my doorstep soon. Sorry to hear about your car mate, hope you're ok!

Great set love the wider angles but it does look a bit bleak on the top :):)

Thank you very much, it was incredibly bleak, but I had a thoroughly enjoyable time!

Severn Valley Stages and Nicky Grist , Harry Flatters using area near Llandovery /Brecon are always good , Woodpecker ,based at Ludlow ,and Cambrian ,North Wales are excellent too . Thje Flatters is a tarmac event on Epynt near Sennybridge .

Great set of images, shows the car doesn't have to fill the frame to make a good motorsport image. #1, 4 & 6 for me.

Cheers Pons, definitely fancy a trip down to Epynt. Think that will be next on the cards

Cracking set of pics 1 is an awesome shot

Cheers Gaz, good to be out again after the winter break!

Thank Neil, far from filling the frame, on some of the shots - it was hard to even find the car. Cheers for the comment mate!

Great shots.

I'm off there this weekend for the 2016 Mid wales rally. It looks like a superb place and I hope to share some nice images here with you.

Only found this place while searching for images of the pike peak wind turbines!

Its a fair walk to get up there, but I think it is worth the hassle. I'll be heading down on the Sunday with another degenerate from the forum, and the forecast at the moment is looking a lot better than it was for last years event. Have a good trip!

Incredible!

Sod off

Thanks, I don't mind the hike, We had to walk some serious distance at WRC in November in horrific weather
