What's the advantage of stacking for this type of shot?

Apparently it brings out more detail and sharpness. I got the idea from watching Tony Northrup's video on shooting the moon on youtube.

It's not too bad but I wouldn't have had a clue what to do without watching the video first.

Still a bit fuzzy IMHO.

A good detailed shot of the moon needs to see the Alpine Valley, a 79 mole long, 3 mile wide valley. But kinda depends on lens used etc.:)

But your image looks good at arms length if you understand my meaning..................

Yes I've seen many far more detailed moon shots but it's the best I've managed to date.

I should have included gear used in my OP: Nikkor 70-300 on a D5100 so not hugely croppable - I pushed it as far as I could I think.
