Hello everyone, seems ages since I posted anything to this forum!

Been very busy with work and sort of didn't have enough time for photography at the weekend, but thought i'd treat myself to a 50mm 1.4. not a perfect lens by any means, but with it being an old design, i sort of like it's retro rendering.

anyway, here are a few shots i've taken over the last couple of weekends. as always, c+c welcome

Some lovely shots there and it looks spot on for sharpness too, looks like you picked a winner there.

Those are fab really love the bokeh. Your framing backgrounds and subjects work perfectly.

Gaz

ps: Why would you say not a perfect lens ? I'm coming from only using the Canon 50mm F1.8 so called nifty fifty.

Thank you everyone!

I suppose what I mean when I say it's not a perfect lens is that, optically, it has a few flaws (like purple fringing) and the focus can be a bit fidgety but it's a fun lens to have and I like it that you can capture a the environment, without it capturing "too much" of it.

I love my 35mm 1.4, but you do have to be really mindful of how you use it and whilst i love the pop of the 35mm when you use it at it's sweet spot doing so is a delicate balance as sometimes you can capture "too much" of the background and you get unwanted nasties like bins.

That said, really been pleasantly surprised by the 50 1.4. would obviously love the 50 1.2, but that is very difficult to justify - even to myself, let alone the wife!

Blimey Mark, they're nearly teenagers, well, not quite. But has it been that long?!

It's a shame your back catalogue isn't on Flickr or similar, was always great inspiration. Glad you're still taking a few.

I'd have a go at that CA in the fourth one.

I wondered where you had gone a while ago, you used posted some great stuff on a 135 if I remember? Anyway, these are great love em all, especially 1 & 3. The fifty just gives that background more compression than the 35 I find but love both focal lengths.

These are great shots. I'm slightly unsure about the use of flare in no 4 but personal prefs. :)

thank you again everyone for your kind words.

I've never not been snapping away, I suppose the thing with an SLR is sometimes it's being bothered to carry it around all day - i just weighed my camera bag and it came in at just over 6kg - you do feel it when it's strapped to you all day. the 50m does feel a lot lighter than the 35 or 135 - that's the thing that puts me off the 105 1.4 (another lens that i have to try had to convince myself that i don't need) - the 50 feels a lot easier to handle... perhaps i'm getting old!

i think the other thing which inspired me to get out and about fiddle around with my camera a bit more other than a new lens is switching from Lightroom to Capture One, which is something I wish I'd done years ago! something for another thread perhaps, but love the rendering.

here are a couple more - we really are being spoiled by this autumn sunshine - all of these natural light - all 50mm @ 1.4
