What does viewing at 100% mean ?

Hello all,

I'd first like to point out that I do very little editing so excuse my ignorance. When viewing an image in some of my software you can enlarge the image until you are viewing at 100% and at this size only see part of the image on the screen so does this mean that the image in it's standard size is bigger than my screen ? Is this an indication of how large I could print ? My recently found 2mp Kodak point and shoot views the image at 55% on my laptops 15 inch screen which seems very big for 2mp ?

Thanks all.

Its when you view a picture zoomed in so that 1 screen pixel = 1 photo pixel. Normally a file is resized to fit within a screen.

On my laptop a normal 20ish MP RAW, zoomed 'fit to screen' in photoshop (15" laptop) is displayed at a zoom level of 21.35%

That makes total sense now I would never have thought that unless I was told , cheers

Just wait until your editing at 300%. That’s when all the little gremlins come out and show themselves!!
