Looks more like a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker to me, do you have any more images..............side on perhaps?

My reasoning is the red patch on top of the head, juvenile GSW have this patch but it's too late in the year for them so this must be a male LSW. Also the markings around the eye area are less defined in the LSW compared to the GSW.
A very good catch as these are very rare compared to the GSW, well done!
