Last weekend Sept 9 / 10 proved to be great for migrant birds as the heavy rain combined with a movement of birds.

Redstarts, Wheatears, Winchats, Pied and Spotted Fly catchers, garden Warblers, and among them a scattering of rarer birds Like Red-backed Shrike. Icterine warbler, and Wryneck. Guess which divvy brought the wrong lens, DOH!.

Managed a record shot of this Wryneck, member of the woodpecker family not resident in the UK.

regards brian.

Lucky to even see one let alone photograph it, great shot!

Wow!! never seen one of these, heard of them but not seen one.
Great capture indeed

Never even heard of them, so thanks for posting your "record" shot (y)

Good take of a rare one.

Also a good example of how good the markings camouflage them. Another reason why we don't see them very often...

Thanks, guys appreciate your comments, this weekends rarities have been Honey Buzzards.

And i have dipped the lot

Well done seeing it, nevermind getting a pic of it...........

Never seen one (even on telly) before now. Well done

Thanks guys, seems there was a canny fall of these, it will be interesting to see the final counts.
regards brian.
