Yellowstone National Park

A mighty impressive bear.(y)

The owl is fantastic! What sort of holiday did you go on to Yellowstone? I'm really wanting to go, perhaps if you get time you could drop me a PM, as I'd like to have a chat? Thank you :)

Both crackinbg shots. I assume you had a long lens, a very long lens, for the black bear :D

I had on the Nikon 200-500mm John. That bear was very close though and heading straight towards me.So close that I legged it back to the car pretty quick after getting my shots. It was up a tree with two cubs when I started the shoot.

Exactly what I was thinking as well, since it's eyes seem very firmly set on Len and not in a good way! I think I'd have had a bit of camera shake by this stage so kudos for staying steady. (y)

Ah..I see. It was protecting the cubs then. They are renowned for being very aggressive when they have cubs to hand, unless you're Gordon Buchanan, wildlife photographer extraordinaire. He's just done the BBC2 programmes at Churchill,Canada. re. polar bears.

You'll enjoy looking at these Len,I'm sure. The older man with Gordon helps protect the bears,I think in Minnesota. Can you believe it ? Such is the enthusiasm in the US for shooting them that in the bear hunting season the State holds a lottery to give out licences. I generally like Americans but on this issue..Grrrr http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...For-second-I-thought-huge-bear-kissed-me.html

That's a great read John. Thanks for that.
I have loads of Black Bear shots from my trip to Yellowstone. One set of shots was when I spotted a bear in the trees a few hundred yards from the roadside. I grabbed the camera and slowly walked towards it taking shots. I got to within about 50ft before deciding that's close enough. The bear knew I was there but didn't seem bothered at all and just kept feeding on the berries and vegetation. I captured some pretty decent video and took close on 200 shots before slowly backing off. Grizzlies on the other hand are a different kettle of fish. You shoot from a distance with those babies :)
