After some 10 years we are returning to the Yorkshire Moors for a holiday, quite near Thornton le dale. This time equipted with better photography gear, so would like to capture some decent landscape shots. One on my list is Hutton Le Hole.
Anyone throw in some ideal interesting places.
Thanks.

Staithes and Whitby would be both worth a visit for all sorts of options.

Thanks guys, Just had a search on youtube, and both your suggestions popped up.

Four main areas from Thornton
1) Villages along the road to Helmsley plus Helmsley itself. Softish landscape - almost Cotswolds with Pantiles.
Worthwhile going north from Helmsley as have Rievaulx Abbey and Bilsdale
2) North York Moors railway from Pickering through Grosmont and on to Whitby
3) Road up Blakey Rigg through Hutton-le-Hole and down into Eskdale - with side detours into Rosedale and Farndale.
4) Coast Staithes, Runswick Bay, Sandsend, Whitby, Saltwick and Robin Hoods Bay

If your are up there when the daffodils are out do not miss Farndale. Some pics here

The flickr group will give you ideas, but there is a tendency for endless shots of steam trains - interesting but awful samey after the first few hundred..

The area round Rievaulx and Hawnby to Osmotherly is relatively quiet and has great vistas as well as lovely more intimate places to explore. Also Ryedale toward Castle Howard and Malton lots of small unspoilt villages with nice houses etc. Hovingham, Nunnington and more

Thanks 4wd, be looking at that later in the day, and your list will be helpful.Regards.

I know it’s a fairly old thread

But what date are you on holiday. If it’s late summer, Whale watching out of Whitby is a good day out.
