Can someone help me with lightpainting a car step by step?

Hi folks, car photography is my main passion and I have been reading this article...

I want to create images like this...



and am after some guidance


Would I be right and thinking something like this...

1. go to pitch black location
2. set the camera up on my tripod
3. shine the torch onto the car and lock the focus.
4. select manual mode, ISO100, F22 and use my remote shutter release.
5. go for an exposure of about 2 or 3 minutes?
6. run around the car with my led torch?

Do I point the torch at the car or at the camera?

Would really appreciate some advice, want to try this and am slightly unsure of how to do it

There was a brilliant thread on here with beginners pointers and tips. I'm on iPhone so can't post the link. It it was called BRIEF INSIGHT TO LIGHTPAINTING CARS and was in the Transport Section. Try an advanced search targeting the transport section and use the word lightpainting as your search term.
