Dell Ultrasharp U2713H versus Dell Ultra HD 4K P2715Q

I always refer to this graphic on wikipedia when is comes to comparing display resolutions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution#/media/File:Vector_Video_Standards8.svg I'm looking at 27" displays too but have no experience using one. Would imagine the P2715Q to be great for...

I really need to change my setup. Got android phone and every photo/video is copied to google photos and dropbox. Doubling my bandwidth usage for no real reason!

    NAS for Numpties

It's quite easy to work out a rough energy consumption for always-on devices: Find your energy suppliers electric tariff per kWh: £0.15 Divide by 1000 to get cost per watt of energy: £0.15/1000W = £0.00015 Always-on devices so times by 24 hours in day = £0.00015 * 24 = £0.0036 This is your cost...

    Anybody know websites?

Wordpress makes setting up a website so easy. I remember hacking <html> before even css was about. Your site looks good. My only comment would be the speed it took to load. Too slooooooooooooooooow......

What transfer speeds do you get from your NAS?

Your ageing Netgear is probably CPU bound, but to achieve 25mb/s you must be on CAT5e not CAT5 ;). Time for an upgrade??

    Backup workflow

Probably ok, but think about fire, theft, burglary, hardware failure etc. All my photos are stored on my PC hard drive, and I use synology cloud station to sync my PC with my NAS. That way I don't have to suffer any network lags in pulling files off the network, it's all local. I then have...

    FFS!!! Lost photos

I use offsite backups. Two Synology NAS, one at home, one at the parents, and use the built-in rsync backup facility to perform nightly remote backups. I would never rely upon cloud storage like Dropbox, Flickr, Timebox etc.. Create something yourself that works properly.

    PC advice please . . .

Have you seen the Dell micro on HotUKdeals at the moment? £99 for a great desktop surfing box: http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=uk&l=en&cs=ukdhs1&kc=&oc=cd5003 No idea how it would perform at heavy photo editing, but probably better than what you've got :)

What transfer speeds do you get from your NAS?

I think the theoretical limit for gig networks is about 125MB/s, so anything approaching that is very good. With my DS114 I see about 70MB/s transfer rates to from a Windows PC. I'm not sure Synology comes with Zip? but it does come with 'tar'. You can use that to (tape) archive your folder...
