Just to close this thread off, a friend was kind enough to lend me his 70-300 AFS VR for the weekend. I found it pretty fast to focus and actually quite sharp at the long end as I was shooting with f8-f11 for most of the day. Lovely lens and a vast improvement on the Tamron 18-270.
As you...
Hello,
I'm referring to the plain AF Nikkor 300mm f/4 which is circa year 2000 vintage as you have highlighted. No way will SWMBO entertain the AF-S version :)
The 70-300 AF-S and the 300 AF f/4 can be had for similar prices on fleabay, whereas the old 70-300 AF is under 100 pounds. I'm a bit...
Hello,
I'm looking forward to going to the Waddington Airshow in early July and am currently in a quandry over which lens to buy. I attended the Duxford show last year with my Tamron 18-270 attached to my Nikon D3100 and was a little disappointed with the soft images and dog slow focussing at...
I'm not entirely sure what I was trying to achieve with this one, it's just a combination of the blind in my bathroom combined with the sinking winter sun diffusing against the pattern of the glass...

A decent bag and strap will be good.
Recommendations for lenses will depend upon the type of photography you want to be doing, be it portrait, landscapes, fast moving nature/sports.
I find the 35mm AF-S 1.8G a wonderfully sharp lens for portraits and some landscape shots.
To be honest with you it suffers with a general lack of identity or purpose. You've got the foreground in sharp focus so the ship is distracting, off centre and well.... a bit dull really.
#2 if looks could kill really :)
#1 I'm not too keen on, the contrast of the sky against the foreground seems very very harsh.
#3, #7 and #10 look like they've been bled of so much natural colour that and the balance weighted towards the lurid green.
#13 could probably do with straightening :)
I'm toying with a cheap AF 70-300 nikkor for around 80 pounds, just for the extra length when I need it. Any opinions on whether this is worth attaching to the D7000? Have previously owned a 55-200 on the D3100 and I can't say I was too impressed with the IQ towards the long end.
That's going to be a bit of a pain in the bum given the proliferation of split fold seats and ski hatches across modern car ranges.
Doesn't that pretty much restrict the cover down to old style saloons with no fold down seats?
