    Shocking Sword attack in Sweden

You want to torpedo boatloads of families fleeing war. You're probably better placed to understand this man's mindset than any of us.

Having a go at the wrong person/people.

In any sort of serious academic pursuit you'd get laughed out of the room if you used a newspaper as a source for anything but the most basic, objective reportage (e.g. "there was a car crash at × location at x time").

Average length of a JSA claim in the UK is around 90 days. Most people only claim JSA for short periods. Claims lasting more than 6 months are statistically rare. Doesn't really support the idea of a scrounging culture.

There are numerous reasons why people who want to work find themselves unemployed. Do you seriously think that everyone on JSA is just too lazy to get a job? Really?

Great idea, except most people in receipt of benefits ARE prepared to work. The long-term/cross-generational unemployed are a tiny minority. It's very sad that the tabloid press and gutter "reality" tv have, through selective representation, been able to convince otherwise intelligent citizens...

Having a go at the wrong person/people.

I disagree, I'm afraid. I don't mind at all if people down on their luck can be provided with a modest expendable income from the state. It would be useful, however, if work always improved one's lot. I'm actually a cautious fan of the idea of a citizens income; being trialled in places like...

Having a go at the wrong person/people.

I didn't say the military shouldn't be funded. I said I grudge paying for pointless conflicts. I don't think OTHERS should pay more either. I think I should pay more and people who earn a decent amount, like I do, should all pay more. I think lower-than-average earners should probably pay a bit...

Having a go at the wrong person/people.

I pay plenty of tax and I honestly do not lose a wink of sleep about "my" tax money going into welfare for the poor and needy. I don't even care if there are a few who exploit the system so they don't have to work. Small price to pay for a real safety net for the underprivileged. I don't worry...

Ebola Case In Glasgow Confirmed - New Case In Northampton

Yes, you're right. She's not been reinfected and she's not currently suffering from ebola virus disease. She's suffering a complication from the initial infection which is similar to meningitis or hypercytokinemia. Her body has, for some reason, mounted a massive inflammatory response to the...

It all went wrong when we stopped sending them up the chimney ..

Black people are much more likely to be poor due to historical institutional racism. Poverty is strongly associated with violent crime and anti-social behaviour. Poverty is the common variable. Skin colour isn't a proximal cause.

Aldi and Lidl - is it just me...

About two minutes quicker. It is a peculiar and self centred way to behave in my opinion. But admittedly it's more amusing than annoying to discover somebody has an attitude like this over something so massively trivial. Also you say you deliberately go slow. Inconveniencing yourself (because...

Aldi and Lidl - is it just me...

You put your shopping back in the trolley as they scan it. Take it to the side and then bag it there. Easy. It's barely an effort. Takes two minutes. It's never even occurred to me that this is something anyone would find troubling. You'd rather stand and inconvenience other customers (and...

    What would you have done?

What if a photographer turned up behind you wanting a wider shot? Are you suddenly in the wrong, there? Or a photographer turns up behind her, wanting an even wider shot? Who's in the wrong now? And so on, ad infinitum. I don't see any reason for anybody to have any right to any position in...

Beginner Can you help me with a photo please?

Why do these kinds of organisations even ask for specific dpi? Minimum digital resolution, sure. DPI us meaningless unless you know the resolution.
