I don't think it's so much secrecy more a case of so many ways to do it. My ally rig was 2mm wall thickness and that worked fine until I bent it. A lot about rigging is technique. Having an extra pair of hands always helps. If you can push don't drive the car. I set my camera to continuously...

You might get away with just a tension wire. Look forward to seeing how you get on.

Just seen your build. 30mm may be a bit to narrow causing your bounce. I used 38mm (1 1/2") and that still had some bounce. Have you got a test shot with the car not moving? If your getting bounce when not moving you'll need a bigger diameter pole. A tension wire will help but you need something...

You can get them from towing or caravan shops.

Spring catches work a treat. I used them on my rig on page 3.

That's a really good insight Andy and thanks for sharing it with us. One thing you mentioned you were on a hill. Did you have the engine running at anytime or was the engine off and gravity doing its work? Also to those who are viewing from pistonheads there are two ways to do the rig. 2"...

Matthew finding an adapter shouldn't be too hard. A piece of tubing that sits over the bars and then screw to secure it to the pipe. Like the super clamps grip the spigot. Nice sharp photo Martin. Latest test. 6.4 meters. Need to work on the support system but it's getting there. Todays...

Something like these? Scroll to the bottom of the page. Much cheaper than CCR too. http://www.cameragrip.co.uk/acatalog/Camcorder_Suction_Mounts.html My carbon rig is near enough 500g per section. So 4.8m is 1.5kg. My ally rig at 5m was just under 4kg I think. Be interesting to see...

Just smaller bits of carbon mate. They are a tight fit and may need sanding to fit. The Same principle as ally rigs just different material.

I hadn't thought about rig failure. I would imagine the carbon would do less damage. Outlet down to the weight difference. I'll weigh my rig tonight when I get home. I have gone for the cheapest route into carbon. There are different weaves and sizes to consider. For me roll wrapped is fine...

No secrets with supplier. I used easycomposites.co.uk . For size I used 35mm ID and 32 ID for the connectors. They supply the tube to length. So 35mm x 1.5m for the boom and 32mm x 1m for the connectors. I cut the connectors down to size (25cm long). Carbon isn't difficult to cut. Just use a...

Made up of 162 cm sections. The main pole is 38mm with 35mm connectors. Blue tape is there until I print numbers onto the poles. Still need to drill them to put bolts through to secure it.

Also a behind the scenes photo. You can seen the tube bending after the front suction cup but no worse than my ally tube did. BTS carbon rig by Micky Photography, on Flickr

I'm really liking the sky and location but as others have said a bit more light on the car would be nice. Did you use a flash to light the car? In the first it looks like you just aimed it at the wheels. Lighting dark coloured cars is always difficult though.

Quick post to keep you updated. I had the opportunity to build a carbon rig so went for it. I've stuck with 1 1/2 inch the same as my ally rig for a fair comparison and cost. Not weighed the rig yet but it is considerately lighter. Flex wise is very slightly stiffer than my ally rig but will...
