I used to hate using flash,but that was only because I didn't know how to use it properly. Now iv started to understand some of the basics how to use flash properly it's truly amazing,but in certain situations natural light is still better!

+1 on the 15-85,only just picked up a secondhand copy,but it's a real cracker. Had the 18-55 is,but the 15-85 is built like a tank in comparisons and the extra focal length makes a massive difference. I guess it depends if you really need the faster speed of some of the other lenses mentioned...

Cheers everyone for all your input,much appreciated. I think I will look out for a secondhand 15-85,but they seem quite rare! For what I want it for (general walkabout) it seems it will fit the bill perfectly,the 17-55 does have a big speed advantage,but seeing as they aren't to far apart...
