Harsh? Perhaps, but when I spend that much money on a lens which was calibrated to my body 18 months ago and then goes very soft, gets sent to Japan for a month and comes back no better (maybe even worse), then have to send my body and lens back to them again after being told what they seen is...
I really should have tried it on my 700d as well but I was that annoyed I just got straight onto the phone and sent it back to them. If it did work on the 700d that would open a different can of worms but the body and lens is away to Sigma now to see what they can sort. Lost all faith in the...
Just have an old 70-200 which they also calibrated with the body at the same time I bought the 24-70 about 18 months ago. It's pin sharp. Love that lens and it only cost me £250. That's why I'm so disappointed with the 24-70 playing up. :(
Yeah but it really is crazily out of focus most of the time. Be better off with a compact camera! They will be calibrating it in the UK thankfully but I really think it's ridiculous that the lens is so bad as the tolerances are bound to be so small in that price range.
Bit of a rant more than anything else but needed to get it off my chest a bit.
Got this lens from Sigma direct about 18 months ago and for the past six months I've been noticing more and more shots being soft whereas my hit rate was previously pretty high.
Sent it in to Sigma UK who...
Just to follow up on the lens issue.
Sigma rang me to say they found inconsistencies especially at 70 mm where the whole image was soft. It's being sent to Japan for an overhaul and won't be back for 6-8 weeks!! It better be perfect after that! :)
Thank you all for your comments.
Daydreamer- the blue is deliberate in no.1 just to give a cool feel to it. The last one just has a very strong vibrancy setting so everything is a bit bold.
Just playing as round with PP to see what works best really so all comments are greatly valued.
Sorry about that - didnt explain myself sufficiently! The shutter speed was high enough to not be the cause of the blur - Just mentioned the ISO in case the low light could be the cause of focus problems.
Really like image 2 myself - might have another wee look at it! Many thanks
Usually have it at 2.8 but it does seem to go through periods of softness and then goes sharp again! Used it for a formal shoot at Christmas with the studio lights and even at f8 I couldn't get it to behave! It was really bad!! Thanks for the comments!
Had a wee shoot at a local venue with a first time model and a make-up artist I've got friendly with through Facebook. Trying some different processing again just to try and keep things varied so fell free to give full and frank review.
Side note:
Really struggled at the end with soft pictures...
Same here - I find having it offset just that bit makes a nice difference - go too far and it will leave harsh shadows of course, but a little offset helps.
Just checked out the prices at the print space - huge difference in price between them and DSCL. What's the biggest difference you notice in the prints from the two companies?
