I'd buy and fit the parts myself rather than pay someone else to do it, they're both really simple jobs. The LCD cover is only held in with double-sided adhesive and the hotshoe by 4 little screws.

What lens is it? If it's not some rare-as-rocking-horse-poo ridiculously expensive one then chances are it's now bin-fodder. As John says, with the front element cracked it's probably not worth trying to sort out the focus issue anyway.

Had a little play about with the 100mm L and extension tubes yesterday. Spotted these ants and aphids, at first I thought the ants were eating them but watched them for ages and realised they weren't. Apparently they have a symbiotic relationship whereby the ants stroke the aphids to encourage...

I do quite like that colour and was looking at a bronze type S before I bought my R. Nice to have something other than red, black or silver isn't it? :D Has your handbrake lever fallen apart yet? Mine did recently, it ended up in 3 pieces. What about your left palm.... have you suffered 3rd...

I've owned my FN2 Type R for a year now, I absolutely love it! It's quick, it handles like a go kart and has a huge boot, with the back seats down I can easily get my road bike in without taking the wheels off. Every time I drive it it puts a smile on my face.... especially when I hit 5200rpm...

A stunning set, that scorpion fly is outstanding! I can see me buying the Yongnuo YN24, from the reviews it looks a great bit of kit.

I find the lighting a tad harsh in the first two but I love the colours and focus and DOF is perfect! Is the ring flash as it comes or do you use some sort of diffuser?

I've tried loads of different lagers and the only one I keep going back to is Beck's Blue. St Peter's Without is ok too, you can almost convince yourself it's a flavoured beer.

A zoom lens won't get you "proper" close up pictures, it will allow you to get distant subjects closer. For proper close up stuff you really need a macro lens but they don't come that cheap. If she's on a low budget just get the standard 18-55 IS and a 55-250 IS, they will cover most things...
