In early April next year I'am planning a Photographic week on the Isle of Skye, based at a cottage by where the ferry leaves to go to the Isle of Raasay, I'am looking to plan this out in advance to get the best possible chances of getting some wildlife images, I have one day planned so far going on the Boat trip from Portree to attempt to Photography the Sea Eagles, Hopefully second time lucky :p (after last when they didn't fly down!) Hopefully looking to Photograph some Otters, maybe some Puffins and other sea birds but not sure if its the right time of year for them,Apart from that I'am just looking to gain some locations and info on where to shoot, Any suggestions would be great :)

Joe

Sea Eagles from Portree are a bit staged  Great pics though. Check out Brigadoon.

For Otters - visit the Kylerhea / Glenelg crossing.

On the Kylerea side there's a hide (Otter Haven) but to be honest I always see Otters on the Glenelg side - by the slipway.

The Glenelg Ferry area will also provide you Sea Eagles away from the tourists and dare I say photographers.

The guy with the tash in this vid will keep you right and let you ride the ferry back and forth.

Broadford bay will get you otters too.

PS

April is a fine choice though (y)

PS

You're probably a bit young to remember the whole Gavin Maxwell / Ring of Bright Water otter thing but head down to Sandaig aka Camusfearna.

Joe, if you can get down to North Uist I can give you some details of spots if you want.

I was considering going there Ade after seeing some of your shots and having a look online about it, I think I will fit in a 2day tour of North Uist as it looks so promising for wildlife, any location tips would be a great help :)
I`ll pm you later Joe.

If you have not heard from me in a day or so, give me a kick.

Thanks for the kick pal.

Have a good time fella.

the rhib trips out of elgol are not to be missed, either out to rum , or up loch corruish - if you do the latter don't try and walk back (like what I did - doh) the bad step is not easy to negotiate carrying a camera rucksac

Thanks for the info, completely missed the Isle of Rum, looks a good location for wildlife and Landscape will have to add it to the list, thanks (y)

rhum is a trip in its own right tbh - and the rut in October is probably the best time. (I did a trip out of elgol but it really didn't have time to properly do it justice)

the glass bottomed boat out of kyle of lochalsh is worth a look as well - its not great for photography , although you get quite close to the seals , but the underwater bits are very interesting (I did get an underwater otter shot but through the reinforced windows it was a bit pants and only worth keeping as a record)
