Edit My Images
Yes
i have just had a new pc built and delivered i told the chap it was mainly going to be used for image editing and web browsing.he also supplied
a 21.5inch moniter.anyhow set it all up and the first thing i notice is how bright the moniter is it makes all my images look washed out ive tried adjusting
the contrast and brightness but its still harsh i find it impossible to edit any images at all.i decided to have a quick google search about the moniter
and lots of people say the same thing one even says he wouldnt recommend for photographic work.and i also notice if i bump my desk the moniter knocks on and off as the power jack is loose.
im going to take it back monday and see if i can get my money back and get a better moniter

this is what he supplied

im looking to pay around £130.00 for a decent moniter thats ok for image editing any recommendations would be great.

cheers

The one you have linked above is more than £130.00, it's now showing as £238.99. I think the mosted rated monitor for the money is the 24" Dell, Linky > >http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-UltraSharp-U2412M-inch-Monitor/dp/B005JN9310/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1413053340&sr=1-1&keywords=dell 24 inch monitor or this one > http://www.amazon.co.uk/DELL-U2412M-UltraSharp-Monitor-1920x1200dpi/dp/B005LNDPPS/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1413053340&sr=1-4&keywords=dell 24 inch monitor

The above Dell's are over your £130 budget, but also have a look around the computer section, there's recomendations on there. The second Dell is 1920 x1200 dpi

I have an Acer on one of my machines that cost just over 100 quid and is actually very impressive - in fact it looks very, very similar to my iMac screen.

£130 can easily get you a decent monitor if you have a look around.

I see it's IPS, but it's also 1080P, which isn't so great. Does it calibrate OK?

I find the extra heigh of a 1200 tall screen makes a useful difference, and 1080 cramped. If necessary I can edit on a 1200X800 screen (for example, to illustrate that I can and have worked at other resolutions) but it's lousy and not something to do from choice. Also the dimensions of a 16:10 screen seem to work better than 16:9.

You may feel differently (particularly as you own that monitor).

I use 3 different monitors in different places for different things, the other two apart from the Acer are my 15" non-retina MacBook Pro and my 27" iMac. I have occasional spells where I spend a lot of time travelling and only have my laptop available to use, due to that I've grown used to not becoming absolutely reliant on one machine/screen.

Kind of my point (in mentioning my use of a non-retina macbook for editing) that while it's possible to use most sizes of monitor for editing, some are better than others. So while I'd agree that a screen 1080 high was usable, it's not as good as a screen 1200 high, given both are of equivalent quality in other respects.

I would go with the Dell's I mentioned above, the second one is 1200 high. With the Morgan Computer Monitor mentioned above, they are refurbished monitors and only come with a 3 month warranty, For me I would rather have the peace of mind of a 3 year warranty which I believe Dell offer for the extra bucks. Send your original one back to your supplier or sell on.

Good monitor on the cheap?

Dell U2412M

Seriously.... just end the thread here.

Edit...

In future, find out if the person building your PCs actually knows anything about image editing, so they don't provide you with such a crap screen. I mean.. Designing a PC for image editing and providing a £80 TN panel piece of crap.. what an idiot.

have a look at nrg_it on ebay, they sell refurb dell screens with some warranty (1yr i believe).
That's the outfit I bought my 2713h from. Excellent monitor and 3/5th of new price. I thought it has broken, so rang them asking about warranty but they are happy to sort out. But now I realise it isn't the monitor issue well kinda is. But the problem is compatibility of the new Intel chip set and the dell monitor. Very odd problem, the USB hub on the dell is not being recognised. But works perfectly with my laptop. Anyway good outfit really decent stuff.
