Me and Mrs T had a good couple of hours at the Nene Washes(about 9 miles east of Peterborough) today. Not many species but the list included scores of widgeon, mute swan, whooper swan, buzzard, kestrel, red kite and roe deer. We wanted to see the common cranes and did get a view of one but the highlight was this sitting in a hedge.

In talking with the man who kindly pointed it and another short eared owl out to us the particular hedge is often used by SEOs in the winter.
