Me and Mrs T had a good couple of hours at the Nene Washes(about 9 miles east of Peterborough) today. Not many species but the list included scores of widgeon, mute swan, whooper swan, buzzard, kestrel, red kite and roe deer. We wanted to see the common cranes and did get a view of one but the highlight was this sitting in a hedge.

In talking with the man who kindly pointed it and another short eared owl out to us the particular hedge is often used by SEOs in the winter.

Its a nice stare and I like the looking through the branches composition.

Whats letting the shot down though is the white balance along with some of the brightness. Not a lot to be done with the angle of the lighting, but redoing the WB and pulling the highlights down can help
