I wouldn't worry about distance but you could have someone behind you holding a reflector. The faff i was referring to was the stands and tripod etc.
But like i say, what you did worked a treat so if it works for you and you're happy then keep doing it.

Next time consider trying to bounce the flash behind and hand holding the camera, alot quicker and you could take a few in succession from slightly different angles.

Thanks David - yes, with results like that it is something to try so glad you suggested it.

It was only me and her so there was nobody else available to hold diffusers or reflectors.
 
Excellent work @Elines looks very good. I haven't had full time to read the full description so will be back to comment further.

With zoom smaller number means wide beam width (spread) and larger number means narrower beam width. Hence higher number travels further. :)
