Was fortunate last year to meet a lady who has devoted her later years to monitoring adders in the Wyre Forest, and she kindly showed me a couple of locations for them in a patch of the woodland.
This year I've taken the time to locate and photograph a few of these fascinating snakes, though the weather hasn't been particularly helpful!

Not everyone's cup of tea, but being crouched down with 5 adders basking in the sunshine very close by was amazing. Tempted to invest in an extension tube for my 100-400mm lens, to allow for a slightly closer view. I'm not that keen on trying to get close enough for shots with my 100mm macro - don't think the snakes would allow it either!
The snake in the first shot above looked incredible in the sunshine.
