Hi. First proper post on the forum.
I've been looking through the macro and close-up photos on this forum and the quality of the images I've seen has blown me away!

I really enjoy macro and close-up photography but I'd have to say I'm still very much a beginner who's learning from every single shot I take. Here's three of my most recent macro shots plus some detail on each. I'd welcome any comments on these shots and any suggestions for things I should be concentrating on to improve my macro skills.

Pencils
Macro shot of coloured pencils taken at 1:1. Canon EOS 350D, Canon 60mm f2.8 macro lens.
1/60th at f/14, ISO 200.
Lit from the side with an off-camera Speedlite EX580-II flash with a softbox cover. Reflector positioned at the opposite side (I don't have a ring flash yet!)

Rose Petals
Macro shot of a pale rose. Canon EOS 350D, Canon 60mm f2.8 macro lens.
4 seconds at f/32, ISO 100. No flash used.
One major challenge I found on this was getting the lens and sensor clean enough to stop covering the image with black dots due to dust and a very small aperture.

Orchid
Canon EOS 350D, Canon 60mm f2.8 macro lens.
30 seconds at f/32, ISO 200.
Taken indoors without flash, with the flower backlit by a window.
