I recently bought a secondhand Nikkon 18-200mm VR which worked perfectly for a few days at home. Took it out for the first time today and it did not focus (f-- or f0). Switched off, removed lens, refitted it immediately and it has worked perfectly for the last couple of hours.
If there is something to worry about as I still have six more days in which I can return it for a full refund. Please advise.

You've done what the manual advises for one of the error messages:

"F - - (blinks): No lens attached – Solution: If a CPU lens is attached, remove and reattach the lens."

If the lens doesn't give you any trouble for the next few days, then it may have been a dirty contact. I think you'll just have to test it out.

The other error message isn't in the book. The closest is:

"F o r (blinks): Format memory card or insert new memory card."

Did your problem get you to change cards or do anything like this?

Sorry I can't help you with definitive advice, but that's the nature of intermittent 'faults'.

probably dirty contacts on either camera or lens - clean them gently with a pencil rubber
