Selected images from my adventurous partner's 2006 Antarctic Collection taken
just over a year and a half before her cruise ship met disaster. The 8 day Adventure Cruise
departed from the tiny township of Ushuaia at the tip of South America.

We sailed by exqusitely formed shapes of floating ice.

"It's a damned hard life down here but someone has to do it ..."

In the Zodiacs we drifted past some exquisite sculptures of floating ice

This formation is known as a Tabular Iceberg

Excursions from the ship in Zodiacs were a feature of the Cruise.

All captured with my 5mps Olympus C-5050 compact that I loaned her. So why can't I take shots that damned good?

Excellent shots Mr Greenhill. Now, where are the real ones - the mayhem and panic, the passengers all screaming "We're all going to die!", the shots of the ship with its stern pointing skywards as it slips below the waves, with the captain still on board?

Ah MisterE - You just beat me to it. I've just edited in the youtube Video url beneath a few images above! (y)
Explorer Sinks Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1cDBsLZNAg

Edit: But please understand, my partner shot these pictures on a previous cruise, 20 months prior to the MV Explorer sinking.

G&T's??? Gin & tonics  Hmm ... I doubt there was even a dram of it aboard! ;)
Some great pics, and we thought it was cold in Britain over the last few weeks (y)
Thanks Peter. :D
Great shots I enjoyed looking at your photos of Antarctic quite envious.
I felt priviledged to have been able to see it before it melts!
Wow what an experience and some fantastic shots :D
