During our Liverpool trip our plans for the Thursday were scuppered by the public sector strike so we made an unplanned trip to Southport - great place and very photogenic - like Liverpool itself.

This is a shot of the Casino (didn't really need to say that did I:muted: :muted:)

Great BW shot Chris and what a super building. I maybe would have tried shooting it square on and crop to eliminate distracting elements in the shot.

Thanks for your comments Steve

I shot it from sideways-ish left and right but I never actually thought of shooting it full square on - will remember that for next time. My presumption was that the image would have been a bit flat - but I don't actually know:). One of the things I try to do is to get a sense of 3D in the 2D image and that usually means shooting at an angle (for me anyway:))

And I agree your cropping works - a bit annoying as I usually try to start off processing with getting the cropping right, and often when looking at other folk's images cropping is the first thing I comment on:):)

I like this, but I probably would have tried to get it symmetrical, it seems to ask for that angle of view. Very nice conversion to mono too.

BTW, you can never get the front view of this building to be "a bit flat" :)

Thanks Umm........... :)

Yes - I must try more angles when I am doing buildings

Nice image, but I prefer the cropped version. I think there are good opportunities for some shots of junction details and exploiting shadows/materials close up. Again my minimalist preferences coming to the fore (as referred to in my earlier comments on your other architectural images).

Yes - seems I'm the only person who doesn't naturally shoot square on:)

Did you go onto the other side of the Casino too? some interesting angles between it and the Ramada :)

Inside is nice too, although they don't normally allow photography in there!

No - didn't go to other side as the holiday was really one arranged by and for Higher Management and she tends to get a bit irritated when I am spending my time taking photos and (apparently but not really:)) ignoring her. And certainly didn't think that going inside was an option (for the same reason:))
