Hi all,

Mr Badger has persuaded me to join here and contribute a few shots for your comments and critique. All the below are all shot with a 30D and 100-400 lens from trackside at Brands last Sunday!

Cheers

Jon

That's the lot. Back to Brands on Sunday this weekend and then off to the rallycross on Monday. Might put some more in here afterwards!

Cheers

Nice series of images Jon, 100-400mm is the perfect lens for Brands, especiallt if you shooting through the fence on the outside at Druids, thanks for sharing

Peter

Great shots ! #1 for me, seen the car in the flesh, what a beast !! Regards Damian. :)

Cheers Damian. It's an awesome car that.

And I'm in Horsham too ;)

400mm is a definite for Brands. Anything else is just too small. Fortunately I don't have to worry about the fences... (y)

Welcome aboard Jon. Fantastic set. Where is the rallycross on Monday. If I've got enough petrol left after my trip to Snetterton tomorrow, I may pay a visit.

all very very good

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! Rallycross is at Lydden near Canterbury on Monday. Starts at 9am! I'll be poncing about trackside so give me a yell!

British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill ! I was going but, i am now going to Hednesford Hills Raceway to watch my mate race his National Hot Rod !! Regards Damian. :)
PS The wife does not know about the trip yet !!:eek:

Hi Jon - welcome to TP.

Cheers Andrew. Have got annoyed with that other place... Too many Americans!

Horsham as well ! How spooky is that ! What is on at Brands 2morrow ? Regards Damian.

Tomorrow is the 1st day of the Dunlop "Great" and British festival. Although if 2 50minute Radical races is great then frankly I'm a Dutchman.

Oh no not one of the people in white coats , standing on step ladders no fun at all :shake: any chance of getting me in front of the barriers :D

Hello, thanks for that. Just looked at the timetable for Brands, not bad at all, some qualifying and then some afternoon races. Might make it down if the wife does not go mad about Monday !! :D

Hi Jan [1],

Yes - the other place is far more US-centric than TP. "Great and British" sounds more like "stuff that wouldn't / couldn't get to the Oulton Park Gold Cup"

[1] Dutch version of Jon.

Did my share of the step ladders aswell! Lucked into a season pass last year and this year has taken off. Doing a few bits for the national mags and things is pretty cool.

And MSV don't allow me to take guests. Otherwise I would! :(

I'm shooting for the DMN Saloons tomorrow. So if you see me wandering abotu with my site name on the lens hood then give me a holler!

It'll be the 4th time I've been to one of their meetings this year. Always hard work...

Im loving #6. The movement in it is cracking.

But hey thats my critique I am no expert o_O

Don't mention season passes out loud - or at least watch your back for a well timed blow from a monopod.

Cheers Jordie! Ditto on the expert!

I'll watch my back. Is that why there's never any photos of you? (y)

I choose my events carefully - normally the dull, small ones where they can't get the high faluting Autosport/Motorsport News togs such as you to go...

Plus it hinders my career as an international jewel thief !

First time I've ever been called high faluting! :woot:

I know who you are! You took a rather famous Lotus shot IIRC. I reckon you should do a thread of your most impressive images.

Welcome

These are stunning. No two ways about it. I dream of being this good. 4 and 5 are great. Number 3

Cheers Matt!

I am indeed the snapper that took that photo... I have a bit of a rep for being in the right place at the right time so I may well do a spectacular series... Bit of fun anyway :D

No 1 is the pick of a very nice bunch :)

Here's a general thought - Is it just me or do Ferrari road cars look uber normal on a race track?

Welcome Jon!
i only wanted you to join the forum so i can slag off your shots (as i cant on POTN as i'm still banned :) ) :) :)

Seriously, good to see you on here, i know you can contribute some excellent stuff.

Without wanting to bitch (yeah right) about a certain other forum, you will note just how many replies you get in here, and they arent all replies of 'nice shots'

I must really need a monitor calibration or eye test, as i am finding a few rather cold in the colour spectrum, the tarmac being a tad blueish?

Number 2 dosnt look quite right either, heavy crop?

I can only say on mine that the tarmac is grey, No. 2 is pin sharp (and not cropped!) and the saturation is boosted in all of them... I don't like colours that don't stand out so try to make sure!

I like these shots very much, how are your colours so vivid, PP ? i took 200 pics on the weekend and most seem colourless compared to these.

Cheers Scud. You could try boosting the saturation within the camera? These have got a +1 within the camera and then no PP other than a re-size and slight pass of USM.

Have a look under your in camera menu and you should find something that will allow you to adjust contrast, sharpness, saturation and something else I can't remember off the top of my head. Should help no end.
