I had my first 'studio mentoring session' There were 2 students in
studio along 3 online and I was rather nervous if everything will
work well after the move.

There were 4 aspects in that session:
  • setting up a tethered shoot
  • shiny black on black
  • specular highlights control
  • DoF
In studio or online, they all had to, directly or remotely, chose their
subject and direct their own shoot. I chose this 6" model car…

I quite like this.

What are your thoughts on lifting the shadows towards the boot and top of the car?

What are your thoughts

That is a big part of a complete series of considerations. I will include
tonal information as well as lines and surfaces in these.
  • how much information is needed to have a subject recognised
  • is more information serving the purpose or
  • might it bring more "graphic confusion" in the composition?
The more important points here are the tasks of the shoot. Sure, in a
proper product shot, I agree with you in this, the approach would have
been different.

Makes sense. I think people quite often get caught up in the final result instead of understanding the process the shooter went through to capture the shot.
