Can anyone identify these?

They have been sitting on a power line above a field that has seed flowers planted in the headland; I reckon there's around 3-400 of them flying around together, generally either down in the seed, on the wire or flocking around in an almost murmuration.

I've been assuming they're Chaffinches as they are also flocking in the lane I drive along but having finally got a long lens on them it would appear not, any ideas?

(sorry about photo quality)

Common linnet?

I wondered that, but there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of red on any them. Could be all female I suppose?

I’ll try to spend a bit of time there and get a better photo, only hassle is I misplaced the charger in a move and the battery is almost dead!

Thanks chaps, on closer inspection the headland is planted with flax so that makes perfect sense.
