If you drive slightly further along to Derwenthaugh park (about 3-5 minutes from Shibdon Park) - the river derwent runs parallel and if you follow the pathway to the 'lake/pond' in derwentthaugh there is a small bridge. You often get a Kingfisher perched on the bridge looking intently down at the small stream feeding the river from the pond. Follow the stream for 5 yards and you come to the derwent; you often see a few KF there.
