Can we expect to see a reduction in the cost of a D300 soon?

Yes
Already RGB have discounted the price of a D300s to around £1270 - once this is released are we likely to see a reduction in the new price of a D300?

When similar 'upgraded models' have been launched does this impact on the prices. Keen to get one now, but dont want to if I can hold off for a month or so and save £100 or so...

I reckon the used price may go up - as the D300s is stupidly expensive, and aimed at voyeurs, perverts and pornographers with the pointless video function ;)

In that case I will save a bit more and get the D300s :bonk:

Yep, couldn't agree more.

One of my local photographic retailers told me that he hasn't had any inquireis from customers about the D300s and is still selling every D300 he can get his hands on. His opinion is that the d300s simply doesn't ofer any real tiem improevemtn for stills over the current D300 and subsequently, feels that most will stick with the cheaper D300. Prices therefore do not look likely to fall.

Got me down to a T :)

A d300s is on my shopping list and I am trying to find the cheapest deal I can :)

This is why is i bought a brand new D300 2 weeks ago from Camerabox.co.uk for £1029 body only, i waited to see what price the 's' was going to be and at £500 dearer then i knew it would keep the D300 up there hovering around the 1k mark !
Just looked they're out of stock, they had 8 when i ordered.

I really think that the D300s introduction has just been done to up the price of that camera! There is not enough extra to justify such a large price hike. If it had just been the same price then that would have been a logical progression. If I were buying a new camera now I would just get a D300.

Is anyone actually going to get a D300s ??

:)

There's also a thread in the classifieds from Digital Depot and the pre-oder price for the D300s....I believe there's a couple of orders there too. :p

I really cant see WHY ! It makes no sense at all. If the video function etc were just added and the D300s just replaced the D300 then fair enough but not paying more! Oh well each to their own. Hopefully I can pick up a cheap 2nd hand D300 in the new year to replace the D200 so I can give the D200 to Mrs C.

No need to convince me. :)

I bet there will be a horde of upgraders just for that 'new camera feeling'. Here's hoping anyway.

Why do people talk of a price difference of £500 between the D300 and D300S? It's going to be about £250 on the street.

If there is a price difference then it is too much unless it is a nominal amount like £50-100. Even if it was £100 I wouldn't pay it.
