I've never used one either, but this lens gets regular moans that it's very soft at and near the 300mm end and AF performance is poor, hence the low price.

Probably OK for a beginner who wants the reach but isn't sure whether wildlife is what they want to shoot on regular basis..
 
had one, brilliant lens. Fairly sharp and a great start off lens. This was my first zoom lens with my 400d and i still use it when i take it on holiday! Honestly guys its a pretty good buy at this price.
