canon models

hi, can anyone please give me a list (or perhaps tell me where i could find one) of the canon DSLR's in order of release, i suppose in theory as each model is released it should be an improvement over it's predecessor (i'm sure this isn't always the case lol, or is it ?) it would be nice to know should i ever consider upgrading (i currently have a 400D) as it can be quite a minefield to a novice as there are so many models.
i'm sure everybody will have their own preferences/opinions etc, and i daresay many will say it depends on what you're shooting, but i would be very interested in your more expeirienced opinions................
