canvas or mdf

was looking at having a canvas done of our dog. and maybe some of my landscapes
looked a a few companys including photo box and asda .
noticed there are various materials including canvas , mdf etc
what is the best to go for . and any tips on how to send the photo file,
tried one of my landscape files and noticed that photo box preview showed more image than the asda one even though they were both 24 x 16

I'm guessing the depth of the Photobox canvas (frame) will be lass than Asda,

A jpg file will do to send

not sure how deep the asda ones are (doesn't say on web)
but photobox offer 3 sizes deepest being 4.7cm
