It's still over 160 miles to drive with a brake problem.
Post from op
I've tried to remain as quiet as possible during all this, not one to fuel the fire.
However I see few concerns about my story cropping up time and again by fanboys trying to poke holes in my story. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a few points.
1. Why did i travel from Essex to SC? Simple this one. The car was booked in for a trackday the following Saturday. After attempting to repair the brakes the previous weekend and failing I had concluded time was up and was going to throw in the towel.
Then when I was offered two days off at work due to a slowing schedule I considered my options. Perhaps I should use one of those days to take this particularly persistent problem to a specialist.
Naturally I googled
impreza specialists and my first hit was extreme scoobies. I phoned and they were too busy for such a short notice appointment.
Next on the list was SC, it was a distance however I was aware of their good reputation on the forums. So I phoned on a chance and the chap practically diagnosed the fault over the phone as a wheel bearing and very confidently assured it would be an easy fix.
Yes it was a long drive however I considered it worthwhile for the specialist experience and the fact he seemed confident it was an easy fix for them.
2. I drove the car wth faulty brakes? A simple search on either MLR or SIDC will fully explain the fault present before any of this kicked off. The brakes are serviceable and safe and have gone through an honest mot.
The problem was with an inch of 'dead pedal' or distance to press before they operated normally.
Ask yourself this,
SC released the car to me with exactly the same brake fault and their mechanics considered it entirely normal behaviour for the car. Have they missed diagnosing dangerous brakes or did we both agree they were roadworthy?
3. The footage was not seen by
SC prior to public release? When I returned and complained about the loose bumper and what I had seen on my camera obviously Dans ( employee ) first thought was to ask to see the footage.
I obliged and showed him from the device itself, the screen is very small and no audio is played back so the evidence was not as damning as the true content, however enough was evident for me to see the car was driven irresponsibly over the road.
When I asked if he thought it was accecptable he replied 'I drive my car down there that fast everyday'.
I reminded him this isn't his own car but a customers pride and joy before repeating the question, is this acceptable driving? He shrugged his shoulders and remained silent.
I then suggested I should post on the club forums and perhaps they can decide? This is when I was threatened with legal action as I haven't recieved permission to record them.
So despite the claims a member of SC has actually seen the footage first person on site. Let's be logical. If I return claiming damage has been caused with
video evidence and you are doubtful of my claims, surely you'd first ask to see the footage before even entertaining me???
4. I'm out to get SC after previous bad experiences? Unfortunately this one is simply not true. I have never been a previous customer of SC and as I'm sure any subaru forum member will confirm I am very inactive amongst the subaru scene. They were the first specialist I have seen for the car as all other aspects of maintenance and repair were done by myself.
I'd like to think
SC will be happy to confirm I was a first time customer, if not fanboy investigators feel free to look back at my forum histories for any mention of a bad experience at
SC, clearly I have no problem voicing my opinions after all.
I hope this has cleared a few of the rumours up. Thank you once again.
