Car Servicing semi-rant

The cars maybe in everyday use, but the emissions control doesn't work as such.
In what way does the EC not work as such? The particular method employed works exceptionally well, it enables multi mode running. The US test setters failed to design a test that meets real world usage, as have all test setters around the world; further the NOX particulates were not a consideration in any test regimes at the time of implementation. EC have for the past 30 years at least, wasted more fuel and created more emissions than the technically better solution of lean burn. Legislators are not the best guardians of things environmental, moreso in the US, those bastions of environmental protection, not. US buyers bought VW cars due to the gas mileage (a colloquial term) delivered, with no regards to NOX emissions. The debacle and false furore is driven by protectionism by the US auto makers, no more no less. As with the miscreant banks, this non story will dissolve into the background and will be a simple financial transaction to appease the loudest hecklers.

It doesn't work because the system installed isn't large enough to work in everyday conditions. The system installed only works under test conditions and VW have admitted as such. They deliberately avoided a proper system unlike other manufacturers. If the system was working properly their fuel consumption would suffer as a result as would the performance figures of the car. I doubt any US buyer would have been dumb enough to buy a VW diesel for gas mileage as they don't run on gasoline. Modern petrol engines are still lean burn.

It's still over 160 miles to drive with a brake problem.

Post from op

I've tried to remain as quiet as possible during all this, not one to fuel the fire.

However I see few concerns about my story cropping up time and again by fanboys trying to poke holes in my story. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a few points.

1. Why did i travel from Essex to SC? Simple this one. The car was booked in for a trackday the following Saturday. After attempting to repair the brakes the previous weekend and failing I had concluded time was up and was going to throw in the towel.

Then when I was offered two days off at work due to a slowing schedule I considered my options. Perhaps I should use one of those days to take this particularly persistent problem to a specialist.
Naturally I googled impreza specialists and my first hit was extreme scoobies. I phoned and they were too busy for such a short notice appointment.

Next on the list was SC, it was a distance however I was aware of their good reputation on the forums. So I phoned on a chance and the chap practically diagnosed the fault over the phone as a wheel bearing and very confidently assured it would be an easy fix.
Yes it was a long drive however I considered it worthwhile for the specialist experience and the fact he seemed confident it was an easy fix for them.

2. I drove the car wth faulty brakes? A simple search on either MLR or SIDC will fully explain the fault present before any of this kicked off. The brakes are serviceable and safe and have gone through an honest mot.
The problem was with an inch of 'dead pedal' or distance to press before they operated normally.
Ask yourself this, SC released the car to me with exactly the same brake fault and their mechanics considered it entirely normal behaviour for the car. Have they missed diagnosing dangerous brakes or did we both agree they were roadworthy?

3. The footage was not seen by SC prior to public release? When I returned and complained about the loose bumper and what I had seen on my camera obviously Dans ( employee ) first thought was to ask to see the footage.
I obliged and showed him from the device itself, the screen is very small and no audio is played back so the evidence was not as damning as the true content, however enough was evident for me to see the car was driven irresponsibly over the road.
When I asked if he thought it was accecptable he replied 'I drive my car down there that fast everyday'.
I reminded him this isn't his own car but a customers pride and joy before repeating the question, is this acceptable driving? He shrugged his shoulders and remained silent.
I then suggested I should post on the club forums and perhaps they can decide? This is when I was threatened with legal action as I haven't recieved permission to record them.

So despite the claims a member of SC has actually seen the footage first person on site. Let's be logical. If I return claiming damage has been caused with video evidence and you are doubtful of my claims, surely you'd first ask to see the footage before even entertaining me???

4. I'm out to get SC after previous bad experiences? Unfortunately this one is simply not true. I have never been a previous customer of SC and as I'm sure any subaru forum member will confirm I am very inactive amongst the subaru scene. They were the first specialist I have seen for the car as all other aspects of maintenance and repair were done by myself.
I'd like to think SC will be happy to confirm I was a first time customer, if not fanboy investigators feel free to look back at my forum histories for any mention of a bad experience at SC, clearly I have no problem voicing my opinions after all.

I hope this has cleared a few of the rumours up. Thank you once again.

Hmmm. Terrible behaviour there, from the mechanics and the trolls.

I don't have anything to compare to your experience but once left my Elan SE for service after making a note of the mileage. When I went back o pick it up at the end of the day they hadn't sorted a couple of little problems as they hadn't had time to road test the car... but they did have time to add 60 miles to the clock.

Soft top, summer and quite near the coast so they must have gone for a good blast in it.

PS.
I don't have much good to say about that dealer and after time I just got sick and complained to Lotus and they sent a guy up to service my car and when he'd finished it had never run better and indeed never did again.
