Critique Cardiff Reflections

Took these outside M&S in Cardiff, the glass is a balcony on the front of an original building, inside which is the tea room.

Two reasonably good shots there, I like the idea behind them. Try when shooting any subject with strong lines, in this case the window edges. Try to keep these lines square to the edge of frame. Verticals straight and horizontals, well horizontal. I prefer the second shot but would like to see more of the tree on the right in shot I think it would have helped the composition, good shots though.

I think no 1 needs to be symmetrical to work well, as Steve suggests. It might be that the (unavoidable) converging verticals are just too extreme, though.
