Hi, just a silly question but I have never used cards bigger than 4 gb, I have a 1ds mk1 and a 5d mk1, can I use 8 gb cards and above? One person told me that the firmware in the 1ds wa too old(sounded dodgy to me) but the 5d would be fine and another said that I could use the cards but would only be able to format them on the PC not in camera, anyone here know for sure from experience?

I think there may well be a size limit of 4GB with the original 1Ds, although I'm not certain. On the other hand if you already have 8GB cards it can't hurt anything to try it.
I'm sure someone will be along with a definitive answer soon.

Thanks, no I dont have 8gb yet, just thinking of buying but wont if I cant use with both my bodies.

Well I have only used upto 4 GB in my 5D, but sure you can use higher like with the 1D. Sorry not much help
 
I have an 8gb card in my 1DsMk1, it works and formats in camera with no problems :)
