Chinese Lanterns????

Well seeing as this section is for "transport" I thought I'd post these images here!
At about 10.25pm last night I grabbed the camera as a cluster of "unidentified objects" past overhead from north to south, could be chinese lanterns but never known them to fly in formation?, first there was 1 followed by 4, then 5 in a "V" pattern, totally silent and travelling at speed. Bright orange with a halo around the base, yes I'm a sceptic, so make of these what you will!
Unfortunately I didn't grab the camera quick enough to catch them all.

My first thought too, but...

a) Do they fly them after dark?

b) Doesn't the whole balloon light up when the burner is on?

no reason why they shouldn't fly after dark as long as pilot has a night rating
 
Yup, I would say almost without doubt they are Chinese Lanterns, been a spate of them round the Lake District area, even made the local paper a few weeks ago, UFO's reported one week, perpetrators fessed up the following week. lol !
