Last Sunday (29th May) on Countryfile good old Chris Packham launched the Countryfile Photo compition.

Does anyone know the "MASSIVE" lens he was using for his Nikon at a county show???
 
I didn't see it, but I have read an article about him using a Fieldscope attached to a camera. So I'm guessing a 30x fieldscope with adaptor? Or similar. Along with a tripod you can balance a car on, no doubt :).
 
Really - why would you take a 600mm lens to a local show?

There's a squiggly bit on the lens that makes it look like the 200-400
 
What puzzled me with that was it seemed to be weightless the way he was holding it.
 
Looked more like the 500mm to me from the hood shape/size. They are heavy but quite hand-holdable if you're strongish
