Forgot to say, not only your DOF F/Stop you choose, to take into consideration with super close ups, Focal plane comes into action, combining both is try and try again, then try again 
basically have your came at 90 degs, the shot will be different at 45degs because the focal plane has changed,

Pity the focus is a tad off because you've got some nice angles on these. I've had a quick look at your flickr and you seem to be shooting at around 5.6-6.3
I'm in the camp that says up to f16 @1x and f11-14 for up to 5x. Dave's point about focal plane can make big different too esp. above 1x
