D2x v D300s low light question

No
I use a D700 for most of my work and a D2x for back up which I find I'm using less and less beacuse I've been spoilt by the low light capabilities of full frame. I am considering swapping the D2x for a (s/h) D300s - anybody like to comment on how it copes in terms of noise when nearing the top end ISO.
(I know the obvious solution would be another D700 but I want to stick with DX for the crop factor)

I believe the iso for D300s is 200-3200 and extend up to 6400.

I was looking for an upgrade earlier this last month for my D5000 and i had two camera infront of me.

D300s and D7000. I wanted a good low light performance and the D7000 wins but if i wanted a high burst and buffer i would go for D300s anyday.

D7000 iso is from 100-6400 and extend up to 25600.

I done some test shots of iso 3200 and still well useable. 6400 you will need some noise reduction in my eyes. For a crop sensor camera it is very impressive already.

Altho the D300s is bigger body and D7000 is slightly smaller, but it is no toy.

Should put D7000 on the list to think about, i think is a good backup to your D700.
