Hi All I upgrade to a D7000 a few months ago from a an old D50 , I have been shooting rugby with a Tamron F2.8 70-200 on the D7000 and a 150-600
for the long end of the game on the D50 :arghh: . I need to banish the D50 or give to my youngest :). My funds can stretch to another D7000 but was wondering
about a 24mp as in D 5300/D5200 which works out less expensive. The D7100 is just to far :(

Which one to go for ???

The 5300 offers the best IQ but the continuity of having two bodies for you to swap and change between would be nice.

How much are you looking to spend? The 7100 is under £550 at Panamoz.

D7100 without doubt ..put what you can on it at jessops interest free and pay the rest over 6 months ..sell the D7000 while its still worth something.

at present with Xmas coming  and buying this under the radar :D her in doors thinks a photo is just a memory
The D5200 at present, I don't really need GPS / Wi-Fi. But could stretch to £415 at a push to keep two cameras the same.

Hdew
D5300 £365
D5200 £315
D7000 £415
D7100 £540

I've just picked up a used D5200 and the files are great but the camera's clunky to use. How about a used D7000?

I'd look to get a D7000 given your budget, unless you explore the murky world of used ;) ... the last couple of D7100s sold for around £400-420 on here ...

Cheap 24mp camera would be a used D3200. Used one for aircraft. Set up correctly capable of great pictures.

I would go and hold these cameras first before buying, my friend has a d3200 and the ergonomics are horrible.

I'm leaning towards a second hand D7000 at the mo  but keep looking at the D71000 at Hdew @ only £540 until the 27th then back to £640

I have a d5200....great camera, great file output BUT, the ISO button is on front side of camera so upping ISO quickly is awkward ( FN button) when you need that quick adjustment, everything else you want to change must be done from back screen!

I spent loads of time going from site to site for different reviews and opinions when looking at buying the D5300 or D7000. I opted for the D5300 as it had better reviews and was better in low light which is what I wanted. The D5300 is a very good camera but I rarely use it above 13.5mp as the 24mp is just too big a file and not really needed unless you intend to do a bit of in picture cropping.

I think it depends on what one is used to. I've only ever used D3100s and D5100s and found them fine.

It sounds like you should be looking at either a 7000 or 7100 - not one of the other, fundamentally different cameras. To me, the choice would be whether one would give you significantly better images than the other in the way you shoot, or whether image quality would be similar between them. If there would be little difference then 7000 for sure.
