Ok. Getting ready to pull the trigger on a D700. I shoot Tamron lenses and have the 17-50mm (DI II) model and the 70-200mm (DI) model. From what I'm gathering, the DI model is fully compatible, but the DI II isn't? Or the DI II is compatible, but only at half resolution?

Any light shed will be appreciated.

Di are full frame and DII are DX (crop) frame.

If you're getting the D700 ther are none better (cost / performance) than the Tamron Twins (17-35mm & 28-75mm)

The DI models are optimised for digital photography and are full sensor. The DII models are DX sensor lenses.

I have the 17-35mm and it's a cracking lens - relatively cheap too (y)

Awesome. Thanks for the replies.

I guess I'll get the D700, keep my 70-200, let my wife have the 17-50, and get a 28-75mm Tammy for myself.

This is going to turn out to be a LOT cheaper than originally thought. I thought i was going to have to get the Nikon 70-200mm VR AND a Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 as well. I love my Tammy's though. :D;
