Fart Bubble!

Never seen anything like this in my life before - but here is a small froghopper farting a bubble!!!

It's been doing this a while now, every few seconds a fart bubble appears!

Thats a cracking picture Paul, is the bubble to do with egg laying? And how did you light the hopper?

The bubble is probably an extension of it's early life; as nymphs the froghoppers produce what we call call cuckoo spit - and this one here was quite small, though clearly an adult stage. It was making a bubble because the plant sap they causes gas and maybe this one had recently had a feast...

The light is from my ringflash, diffused with thin layers of packing foam and plastic milk bottle...
