So I picked up cheap flash and softbox and then realised I have noone to take pictures of. So armed with my trusty Fujifilm Cam Remote app, I took one for the team and stood myself in front of the camera.

Have to say I actually had some fun and it was good to see that I mostly had an idea what I was trying to do. A little too much light spill on the background required a bit of fixing in post, guessing a grid will help with this? Need to work on nailing focus too, but very happy for a first attempt.

I like those. The only thing I might suggest is to have the light a little lower to get catchlights in your eyes. Without it they look a little 'dead' and only with your eyes wide open and you looking up a bit (in the middle of the second shot) do you have strong catchlights.

Thanks Ian, I see what you mean. I'll lower the light a little next time out.

No need for the apologies. I really like them. Two different emotions captured.
Thanks danpug. Plenty to improve upon. If only I could convince my daughter to sit for me.

A grid would help - or get further from the background.
Thanks Simon, unfortunately space is a bit of an issue so I may have to be creative.
