First time macro shots

Hi,my first attempt with a macro lens , i have been used to a 100-400 is and going to macro was so different , i found focusing a bit difficult in the begining as i was waiting for the IS to kick in but the tamron lens i was using does not have it,please tell me were the improvements could be,Thanks

Focusing can be very frustrating at times Den, especially if there's a bit of a breeze blowing. The pic is a bit on the small side but it looks sharp where it should be... the eyes! Good job!

I hope you don't mind me joining the thread but this is my first attempt at Macro , using the Canon 100mm f2.8 L IS ....

Thanks for the comment, i have put some effort in finding some bugs to shoot with the tamron , at the moment i am enjoying taking these macro shots ,i think i will be upgrading to a lens with IS .

IS would make a difference, not so much for stopping movement but making it much easier to see when the focus is good.

if i had a criticism it would be the light,i mean the dragonfly looks a little dark
