Flash/Studio Lighting with newborn babies

If you are photographing a baby that's only a few days/weeks old, are there any guidelines with using flash/lighting? Is there any danger of damaging the babies eyes?

Just something I was wondering.

I think probably not, as just about every new baby gets photographed with a mobile phone or p&s, and the flash is a lot more direct on that, than say a softbox or bounced flash.

I've never worried about photographing my own son abd my friends children with flash, might make them blink a little, but as long as you are not pointing it directly in their eye, I wouldn't worry if it were me

The biggest problem you'll have, based on my experience of shooting numerous babies and young children, is to get them to look back at the camera once they've seen the flash!

No harm providing your sensible.
