I stuck my camera and macro in my bag today to take some snaps in the garden at work at lunchtime but I forgot my flash.
I was in the middle of making a milk bottle diffuser to soften the onboard flash when I spotted a pair of surgical gloves on my desk. Chopped the fingers off and voila!! instant diffusers. :LOL:

I don't really think the shots you've posted can be used to see how well it works. A diffuser should scatter light in more directions leading to less harsh shadows however an pencil with an OOF graduated background doesn't really show this. In addition to this the exposure of both images is different which doesn't aid comparison. Perhaps the glove is reducing the power of the flash by an amount that means even at full power it can't provide the enough light to match the previous exposure?

It would be interesting to see some portrait before/after pictures for comparison so see how effective it is.
